Checking the rear brake shoes of drum brakes (VW Golf 4)

1. Raise the vehicle and secure it on stands.



2. Remove the plugs from the inspection holes of the brake shield. Using a portable lamp, through the inspection holes, illuminate the brake pads and check their condition and thickness.

3. If the thickness of the brake shoe lining (without metal base) less than 2.5 mm, the pads must be replaced. If the condition and thickness of the pads are difficult to determine through the inspection hole, remove the wheel and brake drum.
