Replacing the dust filter (VW Golf 4)

The dust filter, which traps dust and pollen, is located on the right in the water collection compartment under the cover in the ventilation and heating system of the passenger compartment. If the air supply to the passenger compartment has decreased sharply, the filter should be replaced earlier than the maintenance schedule.



1. Open the hood. Remove the rubber seal (1) of the water collection cavity up to the middle of the engine compartment partition. Unscrew the 4 screws (2) of the cover and remove the cover.



2. Press both clips (A) in the direction of the arrow and pull the filter element upwards.



3. Check that the outer slats of the filter element (arrows) are correctly positioned in the frame.





4. When inserting a new filter element, ensure that the filter element is first pushed with the projections (1) into the recesses of the filter seat.

5. Press the filter from the front down until the locking tabs engage in the socket clamps.

6. Tighten the cover mounting screws securely and replace the rubber seal.
