- 1 - tachometer;
- 2 - electronic clock with digital indication or trip computer display;
- 3 - coolant temperature gauge;
- 4 - fuel reserve indicator;
- 5 - selector position display;
- 6 - speedometer;
- 7 - trip counter with service indicator
The location of the control devices depends on the specific car model and engine type.
Tachometer (1)
In no case should the tachometer needle enter the red zone of the scale.
The beginning of the red zone on the scale depends on the specific engine.
Upshifting earlier saves fuel and reduces engine and transmission noise.
Switch to a lower gear as late as possible, shortly before the moment when jerks appear in the engine.
Electronic clock with digital display (2)
To set the current time, use the button located at the bottom right under the tachometer.
Turning the button counterclockwise (arrow 1) set the clock all the way. Turning the button once briefly advances the clock by one hour. Turning the button and holding it in this position continuously changes the clock.
Turning the button clockwise (arrow 2) minutes are set to the stop. Turning the button once for a short time causes a one-minute shift. When the button is turned and held in this position, the minutes are continuously rearranged.
With this button you can set the clock with second precision:
PROCEDURE
1. Button turn right (arrow 2) until the clock shows a time one minute behind the reference clock.
2. Turn the button momentarily to the right when the second hand of the control clock reaches the full minute.
Trip computer display (2)
The figure shows the trip computer display showing the average specific fuel consumption.
trip computer display (multifunction pointer MFA) along with the indication of the current time gives a lot of additional information:
- outside air temperature;
- instantaneous fuel consumption;
- average fuel consumption;
- distance traveled;
- average speed of movement;
- travel time.
The icon of the currently displayed parameter appears, except for the current time, at the top of the display field.
Alternately displaying additional information on the display is carried out with the ignition on by briefly pressing the balance key B located on the wiper control handle.
If you press the upper face of the key, then the indications of various values will change one after another.
If you press the lower edge of the key, then the indications of various values will change one after the other in reverse order.
STORAGE
A, B - keys
The on-board computer is equipped with two automatic drives.
Drive for storing information on individual trips (MFA 1) accumulates the following trip data from the moment the ignition is switched on to the moment the ignition is switched off: driving time, distance traveled and the amount of fuel used.
Based on these data, the average speed and average specific fuel consumption are calculated.
If within two hours of switching off the ignition, the movement of the car was resumed, the new data is added to the previous ones and taken into account in the calculation of the average values. If there is a break in the movement of the car for more than two hours, all data in the drive is automatically erased.
Drive for storing information on the total mileage (MFA 2) of the car accumulates in itself all the data for any number of trips up to the achievement of the total indicators of the value of 100 hours of car movement, 10,000 km of run and 1000 liters of fuel consumed. The accumulated data are used to calculate the average values of specific fuel consumption and speed obtained from all trips.
When the limit of one of the named values is exceeded, the data in the drive on the total mileage are erased and the countdown starts again. This drive, unlike the trip drive, does not erase data after two hours of non-driving.
To query the data, access the respective memory by pressing button A on the wiper stalk.
In the field of clock indications with digital indication, the corresponding indicator of the selected drive appears:
- MFA 1 - drive for storing information on individual trips;
- MFA 2 is a drive for storing information on the total mileage.
The following indicators can be called up from the drives:
- average specific fuel consumption;
- distance traveled;
- average speed of movement;
- movement time.
The amount of fuel used is not shown.
If you hold down the A key for more than two seconds, the data in the selected drive is erased.
Disconnecting the battery will erase the data on both drives.
INDICATIONS
When the ignition is switched on, the display shows either the last selected value or the outside temperature with a snowflake icon (warning about the possibility of ice).
No pictogram - current time
The current time is saved when the ignition is turned off.
The current time is set by turning the setting button near the tachometer on the instrument panel.
°C - Outside temperature
Indication range from 40°С to +58°С. When the vehicle is stationary or when driving at very low speeds, the displayed outside temperature may be slightly higher than the true value due to the influence of engine heat radiation.
At an outside temperature of +4°C to -7°C, the display shows an icon in the form of a snowflake in addition to the outside temperature (warning about the possibility of ice).
This icon flashes for approximately 5 seconds and then stays on until the outside temperature exceeds +4°C or drops below 7°C.
In the event of an ice warning, the pointer switches from the displayed value to the outdoor temperature display (warning about the possibility of ice).
Warning: When you draw a conclusion about the possibility of icing on the road by the value of the outside air temperature, keep in mind that ice on the road can appear even at a temperature of about +4°C.
By pressing button B on the steering column switch, you can switch back to the display of the previous indicator.
- Instantaneous specific fuel consumption
The current fuel consumption is shown in liters per 100 kilometers.
Calculation of instantaneous fuel consumption is made after 30 meters of run. When the vehicle is stationary, the last reading of the instantaneous fuel consumption is saved.
If the instantaneous fuel consumption indicator is selected after starting the engine, the average fuel consumption value will be displayed for the first 30-40 meters of movement.
With instantaneous fuel consumption readings, you can adjust your driving style according to your desired fuel consumption.
- Average specific fuel consumption
The average value of the specific fuel consumption is displayed, not the current fuel consumption value.
This indicator starts to appear immediately after covering the thirty-meter distance from the moment when the data in the corresponding drive was erased. Prior to this, strokes are shown instead of numbers on the display. While driving, the indicator displayed is updated every five seconds.
With the drive selected for storing information on individual trips (MFA 1) The display shows the average specific fuel consumption for the current trip.
With a drive for storing information on the total mileage (MFA 2) the display shows the average specific fuel consumption for all recent trips.
Warning: The amount of fuel used is not shown.
- Distance traveled
With the MFA 1 drive selected, the display shows the mileage since the ignition was switched on or the drive was cleaned.
With the MFA 2 drive selected, the display shows the mileage for all individual trips.
The maximum value that can be shown is 9999 km. If the mileage exceeds this value, the countdown starts from zero.
- Average moving speed
All that is stated above for the indicator "Average specific fuel consumption" is also true for the indicator "Average speed".
- Travel time
Everything that is stated above for the "Distance traveled" indicator is also true for the "Movement time" indicator. The maximum possible reading is 99 hours and 59 minutes. When this value is exceeded, the countdown starts again from zero.
Coolant temperature (3)
- a – low temperature zone. Avoid high engine speed and do not give the engine a heavy load;
- b - normal operating temperature zone. During normal vehicle movement, the arrow should be in the middle zone of the scale;
- c - warning lamp
The pointer works when the ignition is on.
After the ignition is switched on, the warning lamp lights up for a few seconds during a function test (With).
With a heavy load on the engine and high outside air temperature, from time to time the arrow may enter the upper zone of the scale. This should not cause an alarm until the warning light comes on (With).
If the warning lamp starts to burn while driving, you should first of all see what temperature the coolant temperature gauge shows.
If the needle is in the normal operating temperature range, coolant should be added to the cooling system as soon as possible.
If the arrow is in the right zone of the scale, then this means that the temperature of the coolant is too high. You should stop the car, turn off the engine and determine the cause of the increase in coolant temperature.
Warning: Installing additional headlights in front of the grille reduces the effectiveness of its operation. If the ambient temperature is high and the engine is heavily loaded, there is a risk of engine overheating!
Fuel gauge (4)
The arrow indicates the fuel reserve zone.
d - warning lamp
The pointer works when the ignition is on.
The vehicle's fuel tank capacity is approximately 55 liters.
If the pointer has reached the fuel reserve zone (arrow) and the warning light is on at the same time (d), this means that there are still about 7 liters of fuel left.
Automatic transmission selector position display (5)
The position in which the automatic transmission selector is located is shown here.
Distance meter / Trip odometer (6)
The upper counter shows the total mileage of the car, the lower one shows the mileage since a certain moment (trip meter).
The last digit of the lower counter indicates 100-meter segments.
Zeroing the lower counter is done by pressing the button under the speedometer.
Service indicator (7)
When the next service is due, the lower counter (trip meter) one of the following service indications appears on the speedometer:
- oil change - service OEL or service OIL;
- inspection service - service INSP.
Approximately one minute after the engine is started, the indication for maintenance required disappears. You can also turn on the daily mileage display by pressing and holding the daily meter setting button for more than 0.5 seconds.
The Volkswagen service company that performs maintenance, after performing work, sets the service indicator to its original position.
If the service was not carried out at a Volkswagen service company, the service indicator should be reset in the following order:
PROCEDURE
1. With the ignition off, press and hold the reset button below the speedometer.
2. Switch on the ignition and release the reset button only when one of the service icons appears on the display.
3. Turn the digital clock minute button to the right (for clocks with pointer indication, pull out the button). The following will appear on the display: "service-".
4. Switch off the ignition. Only now the initial setting has been made to indicate the need for maintenance.
5.In any case, only the required type of maintenance should be set. Otherwise, the required maintenance time will be indicated incorrectly. By pressing the setting button, you can select a particular type of service.
6.Zeroing should not be carried out between two maintenances - the instrument will give false readings.
When the battery is disconnected, the service mileage readings are retained.
If the speedometer is replaced after repair, the service indicator must be reprogrammed. This operation must be carried out by a Volkswagen workshop. If the service indicator has not been programmed again, it is necessary to carry out maintenance work on the vehicle according to the "Service Book", and not according to the service indicator.
