The cars have a monocoque body. The body is a universal welded structure and includes crumple zones in the front and rear of the car with a safety cell in the center of the car.
The hood, trunk lid, doors and front fenders are bolted on and are easy to replace. When installing, gaps must be observed, otherwise, for example, the door will knock or increased wind noise will be observed when driving. The gap must be at least parallel along its length, i.e. the distance between the body parts must be maintained constant along the entire length of the gap.
During the production process, the car body is galvanized, and the bottom is treated with an anti-corrosion coating. Bumpers and wheel arch liners are made of plastic for strength and durability.
Almost all bodywork components and parts can be installed and removed using a standard set of tools. When disassembling and assembling, special precautions must be taken to avoid serious damage to the seals and anti-corrosion coating applied by the manufacturer.
Warning: If you do not have sufficient experience or do not have a suitable location to perform any of the work described in this manual, it is recommended that repairs be carried out at a Volkswagen dealer service center or a specialized auto repair shop.
Before working on the instrument panel, doors or any electrical equipment, remove the ground cable from the battery.
Safety precautions when performing welding work
When performing welding or other work involving strong sparks near the location of the battery, be sure to remove the battery.
It is prohibited to weld or solder parts of a filled air conditioner. This also applies to those parts of the car, the welding of which may cause the air conditioner parts to heat up. When carrying out repair and painting work in the drying chamber or in its heating zone, the temperature should not exceed +80°.
RECEIVER WITH CODE PROTECTION AGAINST THEFT
Warning: Before disconnecting the ground wire from the battery, make sure you know the correct decoding code for the receiver, which restores its functionality. If you enter the wrong code after connecting the ground wire, the receiver will turn off.
CONNECTING THE BODY TO THE GROUND
Warning: To maintain a secure ground connection and prevent damage due to corrosion, do not disconnect wires from the body. Disconnect wires only from the battery, engine, or transmission.
Before connecting ground wires or busbars, clean all connection points down to bare metal. Make sure that ground bolt connections are securely tightened.
