Removal and installation the rear door pillar (VW Golf 4)

Rear door fastening elements

• 1 - back door;
• 2 - inner door trim;
• 3 - emphasis;
• 4 - pillar. Before removing the pillar, it is necessary to support the rear door in the open position. When removing the door, it is necessary to disconnect the pillar only from the rear door;
• 5 - bolt, 22 Nm;
• 6 - strike plate of the lock;
• 7 - piston spacer;
• 8 - expansion piston;
• 9 - Hexagonal nut, 7.2 Nm;
• 10 - hinge;
• 11 - bolt, 22 Nm

Rear door support pillar

• 1 - spherical hinge on the door;
• 2 - spring clamp;
• 3 - rack;
• 4 - bolt;
• 5 - spherical joint

Removal

1. Open the rear door and support it in this position.

2. Disconnect the pillar from the rear door.

3. To do this, use a screwdriver blade to lift the spring clip (2) and remove the upper part of the support from the spherical hinge on the rear door (see picture Rear door support pillar).



4. If it is necessary to remove the strut from the vehicle, remove the lower part of the strut in the same manner.

5. When removing the rear door pillar, do not completely remove the spring clip from the ball joint, otherwise the spring clip will be deformed and the pillar will have to be replaced.

6. If a new air strut is to be installed, the gas must be removed from the old strut to dispose of it.



7. To do this, secure the stand in a vice by section X (X = 50 mm). To avoid an accident, be sure to clamp the stand by the specified section.

8. At a distance equal to 1/3 of the length, saw the body of the air strut. When sawing the strut, use glasses to protect your eyes.

Installation

Secure the air strut to the rear door by pressing the strut firmly until it locks into place on the door's spherical hinge.
