Attention! Operation of the vehicle without the front bumper or bumper holders is not permitted, as the subframe is not secured (front axle and engine beam). On all Golf II/Jetta II vehicles (except CL, GT 90hp and GTD variants) since August 1989, a modified (wide) bumper has been installed. Differences in the execution of work operations are noted in the description.
Removal
Disconnect the hoses from the headlight washer.
On vehicles from August 1989, remove the left and right air duct covers located in front of the front of the wheel well.
Disconnect the turn signal connectors (near the right bumper bracket).
Disconnect the bumper bracket mounting bolts on the left and right side members (from the bottom of the car).
Pull the bumper forward out of the side guides.
Installation
With the help of an assistant, insert the bumper into the side guides and secure it to the side members with bolts to a torque of 82 Nm. In doing so, install bolts of the same type that were used to secure the bumper. Since August 1989, ribbed bolts with hexagonal heads have been installed.

Pass the turn signal wires through the hole in the bracket and connect them.
Connect the headlight washer hoses.
