Theft-protected engine control unit (VW Tiguan 1)

Before replacing the engine control unit, connect the tester -VAS 5051B- and perform the Guided Function "Replacing the engine control unit". Switch off the ignition. Remove the windscreen wiper arms. Remove the trim of the water drainage box. Unscrew the bolts "1". Cover the water drainage box with a clean rag to avoid scratches. Slightly press the engine control unit together with the mounting frame. Unlock the locks of the engine control unit in the -direction of the arrow- and remove it a little.



Bend the protruding ends "1" of the fixing bracket outward. Unscrew the shear screws "2" with pliers and remove the fixing bracket.



Move the connector latches "1" on the engine control unit to the edges and disconnect both connectors. Remove the engine control unit.

Installation

Insert engine control unit "1" in the -direction of the arrow- into the mounting frame until it locks. Screw on the mounting frame. Tightening torque: 6 Nm.

Connect the connectors to the engine control unit and move the clamps "1" to the middle. Install a new retaining bracket and evenly screw in new shear screws until the screw heads break off.
