General instructions for carrying out work on the ignition system

Follow all necessary instructions after connecting the battery. A voltage of at least 11.5 V is required for the electrical components to operate without failure. After completing the work, interrogate the fault memory of the engine control unit, delete all fault entries that may have arisen as a result of checks and repair work. After clearing the fault memory, create a readiness code - Vehicle diagnosis, measuring and information system VAS 5051 "Guided function". If after fault diagnosis, repair or component testing the engine starts and runs only briefly and stalls, the engine control unit is blocked by the immobilizer. In this case, adaptation of the engine control unit may be necessary - Vehicle diagnosis, measuring and information system VAS 5051 "Guided functions".

  • 1 - Knock sensor 1-G61-, on the cylinder head in front under the intake manifold. To remove it, you need to dismantle the cooling system pump, the contacts are gold-plated
  • 2 - 20 Nm, tightening torque affects the operation of the knock sensor
  • 3 - Ignition coil with output stage (N70, N127, N₂91, N₂92)
  • 4 - Spark plug, 25 Nm, remove and install using spark plug wrench -3122 B-
  • 5 - O-ring round section, replace
  • 6 - Engine speed sensor "G28", in the cylinder block, front bottom left, next to the primary oil separator
  • 7 - 10 Nm
  • 8 - Hall sensor "G40", in the cylinder head housing, gold-plated contacts

Removal and installation of ignition coils with output stages

Instructions: To remove ignition coils with output stages from spark plugs, place the "T40039" puller at the upper thick "arrow" rib of the coil. If you use the lower ribs of the coil, they can be damaged.

Using the T40039 puller, remove the ignition coils approximately 30 mm from the spark plug sockets.

Unlock the connectors and remove all connectors from the "arrow" ignition coils at the same time.

Installation of ignition coils with output stages

Insert the ignition coils into the spark plug sockets without applying force. Align the ignition coils with the "arrow" connectors and simultaneously connect all connectors to the coils. Use your hand to evenly press the ignition coils onto the spark plugs.
