Oil pan and oil pickup tube — removal and installation (VW Lt 28)

180. The oil pan is basically similar to the one used on a 4-cylinder engine. To remove it, you must first remove the alternator drive belt, timing belt, crankshaft pulley, camshaft pulley and its support shield.

181. The pallet inspection procedure is similar to that described in Chapter 1. For control values, see. in the Specifications at the beginning of this Appendix (6-cylinder engine).

182. If the oil pump is heavily worn, it should be replaced as an assembly.

183. Replacement of the seal is discussed below in this Appendix.

184. The oil intake pipe is attached to the crankcase via a flange connection with the pump (see photo) and a support bracket at the rear of the tube (see photo).

185. Some engines may also have an intermediate bracket (in the middle part of the tube).

186. When installing the oil intake tube, replace it with a new gasket under the inlet flange.
