Ignition system - troubleshooting



SymptomReason(s)
The engine will not startPoor contact at the battery terminals
The battery is dead
Oil got onto the breaker contacts
Any of the ignition system wires has become disconnected
The capacitor is faulty
The high voltage wires or the inner surface of the distributor cap are damp
Shut-off solenoid faulty
Fuel system malfunction
The engine starts, but runs intermittentlyOne of the spark plugs failed
The distributor cap cracked
The runner cracked
The centrifugal ignition regulator mechanism is worn out
The spark gap of one of the spark plugs is set incorrectly
The gap between the breaker contacts is set incorrectly
The capacitor is faulty
The ignition coil is faulty
The ignition timing is incorrectly adjusted
Poor grounding
