Adjusting the door locking plates (VW Beetle)

If the door play cannot be eliminated by adjusting the locking plate, then it is not necessary to replace it. In many cases, it's sufficient to place a 0.5-1.5 mm thick sheet shim between the lock wedge and the locking plate. To do this, follow these steps:

Remove 2 countersunk screws from the V-shaped portion of the retaining plate. Place a sheet gasket underneath and secure it together with the lock wedge.

Remove the retaining plate and adjust the door (see section above «Removal and installation doors»).

Install the locking plate in accordance with the marks applied in the middle of the lock post, secure the plate and adjust if necessary. Incorrect installation of the retaining plate can be corrected as follows:

If the door closes too tightly and its handle is difficult to move, then the locking plate is tilted too far inward and the dimension "a" needs to be adjusted.
