Necessary consumables/replacement parts when replacing the belt:
- V-ribbed belt for the respective engine version.
Status check
- Shift the gearbox to neutral.
Safety note
There is a risk of accident when lifting the vehicle! You must first read the section «Vehicle lifting».
- Raise the car on the goats.
- Mark the poly V-belt -1- in a clearly visible position with a transverse mark with chalk.
- From the underside of the vehicle, using a socket for the belt pulley bolt, slowly turn the engine crankshaft in the direction of rotation with stops until the chalk mark appears again, and section by section check the condition of the V-ribbed belt.
Check poly V-belt for the following damage:
- Traces of oil and grease.
- Wear of the side surfaces of the wedges: the wedges are worn to a pointed state -B-, the wedges of the new belt have a trapezoidal shape in cross section. At the base of the wedges of the belt, a cord is visible, which appears as light spots -C-.
- Hardening of the lateral surfaces, their lightening.
- Transverse cracks -D- on the back of the belt.
- Separate wedges -E- moved away from the base of the belt.
- Fringes -F- on the outer side of the belt cord.
- Cord breaks -G- on the sides of the belt.
- Transverse cracks -H- on many wedges.
- Destruction of the wedges, individual transverse cracks of the wedges. Deposits of dirt and stones between the wedges. Rubber pellets at the base of the wedges.
- If at least one of these several types of damage is detected, then the V-ribbed belt need to be replaced.
