Checking the functionality of the injector

1. Disconnect the air intake pipe.

2. Start the engine and let it idle, or if the engine does not start, turn the crankshaft with the starter. The fuel injection process should occur by the injector (Fig. 5.50).

3. Turn off the ignition and check the injector for fuel leaks. The leak should be no more than 2 drops per minute.

4. If fuel injection does not occur, check the fuel regulator and injector activation.

Checking the activation of the injector

5. Remove the air filter.

6. Disconnect wiring connector 1 from injector 2 (Fig. 5.51).

6. Disconnect wiring connector 1 from injector 2 (Fig. 5.51).

7. Connect the VAG 1527 diode tester to pins 2 and 3 of the connector.

8. Try to start the engine with the starter and check the supply voltage. The tester lamp should blink.

9. The tester light is flashing: turn off the ignition and replace the injector.

10. If the light does not flash, turn off the ignition. Connect the VAG 1598/18 tester to the engine control unit wiring harness (fig. 5.45). Check the wire between terminal 3 of the harness connector and socket 7 of the tester for open circuit. Wire resistance: max. 3.5 ohms.

11. Check the wire between terminal 2 of the wiring connector and the relay support for open circuit. Wire resistance: max. 2.5 ohms.

12. Additionally check the short circuit of the wires to each other. Specification resistance: ∞ Ohm.

13. If no fault is found in the wires, then replace the engine control unit.

Checking the injector resistance

14. Disconnect wiring connector 1 from injector 2 (Fig. 5.52).

14. Disconnect wiring connector 1 from injector 2 (Fig. 5.52).

15. Check the resistance using a multimeter and auxiliary wires from VAG 1594 between contacts 2 and 3 of the harness connector 2. Specific resistance: 1.2-1.6 Ohm (at a temperature of 15-30°C).
