Checking and adjusting the ignition timing angle (VW Polo 3)

1. Connect the VAG 1767 tester or the VAG 1367 tester with the VAG 1367/8 clamps (Fig. 5.60).



2. Connect the VAG 1551 tester (V.A.G 1552) and dial "01" to select the "Address Word" function of the engine control unit. The engine should be idling. The display should show the following information:


3. Press "04" to select the "Set Home Position" function and confirm by pressing the "Q" button. The display should show the following information:


4. Press "00" to select the "Display Group 1" function and press "Q". The display should show the following information:




5. Check the ignition timing. Specification: 4-8° before TDC.

6. Using a stroboscope: point it at the ignition timing mark (Fig. 5.61).



7. Adjust the ignition timing by turning the ignition distributor. Adjustment value: 6±1° before TDC.

8. Click "→".

9. Press "06" to select the "Complete Output" function and confirm by pressing the "Q" button.
