Tightening torques of main threaded connections, kgf.m (VW Passat B2)

Cylinder head mounting bolts:

• 1st reception: 4.0;
• 2nd reception: 6.0;
• step 3: Turn 180°.

Crankshaft timing pulley mounting bolt: 8.0 (from October 1986:

• 1st reception: 9.0 kgf.m;
• 2nd step: turn 180°).

Camshaft timing pulley mounting bolt: 8.0.

Main bearing cap mounting bolts: 6.5.

Connecting rod cap bolt nut:

• 1st reception: 3.0;
• 2nd step: turn 90° further.

Flywheel mounting bolt: 7.5 (from October 1986:

• 1st reception: 3.0 kgf.m;
• 2nd step: turn 90°) (apply a special locking adhesive to the threads first).

Water pump mounting bolt: 1.0.

Gearbox to engine block mounting bolts:

• M12: 5.5;
• M10: 4.5.

Nuts and bolts for fastening engine mounts and brackets: 4.5.
