The coolant temperature is too high, the control lamp flashes while driving
Too little coolant in the system
Coolant level in the expansion tank when the engine is cold (temperature around +20°С) must be between the maximum and minimum marks on the tank wall. When the engine is warm, the fluid level may be slightly above the maximum mark. Add fluid if necessary. Check the cooling system for leaks.
The thermostat does not open. Coolant circulates only in the small circuit
Check if the upper radiator hose is getting hot. If not, remove and check the thermostat. Replace if necessary. If a defect appears on the way, then you can remove the thermostat and continue driving without it. Without a thermostat, the coolant temperature rises more slowly. This trick is not allowed on FSI engines.
Radiator fins dirty
Blow out the radiator from the engine side with compressed air.
Radiator clogged with lime deposits or rust. Radiator hoses do not get hot.
Replace radiator.
Radiator fan not working
Check the electric fan plug, make sure it is getting power.
Check the fan fuse.
Defective steam valve on the cover of the expansion tank
Check the pressure cooling system. Replace cover if necessary.
Faulty coolant temperature gauge
Check the coolant temperature gauge sensor and the gauge itself.
