Removal and installation of one muffler (VW Golf 4)

Location of fingerprints on the exhaust pipe

• 1, 3 - prints for installing the clamp bracket;
• 2 - marks of the place where the exhaust pipe was cut;
• 4 - clamp bracket

Removal

1. Raise the vehicle and secure it on stands.

2. The location of the pipe disconnection is shown in the figure by the prints on the exhaust pipe. The middle print indicates the location of the exhaust pipe cut. The outer prints serve to orient the installation of the clamp bracket.

3. Cut the exhaust pipe at the indicated location.

4. Release the muffler from the rubber mounts and remove it from under the vehicle.

Installation

1. Install the muffler into the rubber mounts.

2. A spare part, a clamp, is used to connect the exhaust pipes. Clamps are not reusable. Install the clamp on the exhaust pipe connection so that the ends of the clamp are located next to the outermost marks on the exhaust pipes.

3. Align the exhaust system.

4. Tighten the clamp bracket mounting bolts to 40 Nm.
