Removal, adjusting and installing the sunroof opening drive mechanism (VW Golf 4)

Removal and installation of the sunroof drive mechanism can only be performed with the sunroof closed.

Removal

1. Remove the ground cable from the battery.



2. Using a thin screwdriver blade, remove the cover (1) that covers the sunroof drive mechanism.

3. Release the spring clip and disconnect the sunroof actuator electrical connector.



4. Unscrew the screws (indicated by arrows), securing the sunroof drive mechanism motor.

Warning: The screws have a protective coating, so new bolts must be used during installation.

Adjustment

1. The initial position of the hatch must be adjusted if the hatch drive mechanism does not stop in the initial position or if the hatch was opened manually. To adjust, the hatch drive mechanism must be removed.



2. Remove the ground cable from the battery.

3. Connect the electrical connector to the sunroof drive motor.

4. Press the preset switch, which will activate the sunroof closing mode.

5. Pull out the preset switch, which will activate the sunroof closing mode.

6. Turn the preset rotary switch to the "hatch open" position.

7. Turn the preset rotary switch to the "hatch closed" position. This will automatically reset the engine and turn it off.

8. In this position, install the sunroof drive mechanism motor. In addition, disconnect the electrical connector from the motor and remove the ground wire from the battery.

Installation

1. Install the sunroof drive mechanism motor and secure it with new screws, tightening them to a torque of 3.5 Nm.

2. Connect the electrical connectors.

3. Install the cover and secure it with the spring clip.

4. Connect the ground wire to the battery.
