Emergency towing of vehicles by a technical assistance vehicle (VW Golf 2)

The information below is intended for the service vehicle operator who knows how to operate his equipment while creating a safe working environment.

General recommendations

• If possible, tow the vehicle with the front wheels raised off the ground.
• Towing a car can also be done with the rear wheels raised off the ground.
• If it is necessary to tow a vehicle with a manual transmission with the rear wheels raised off the ground, check for oil leaks or drain it first.

Note: Do not tow a Volkswagen Jetta using standard sling type equipment to avoid damage to the body bumper.

Warning: Do not allow passengers to remain inside a towed vehicle under any circumstances

Front hitch

• Attach the lifting device to the wheels.
• Attach safety wheels to the wheels.
• Attach safety chains to the lower control arms.
• Clearance of the towed vehicle: 15-30 cm between the tires and the ground.

Rear hitch

• Attach the lifting device to the wheels.
• Attach safety belts to the wheels.
• Attach safety chains to the bridge beam.

Automatic transmission
If it is not possible to tow the vehicle using a lift in combination with a self-loading platform, it must be transported on a flat bed to avoid damage to the transmission due to insufficient lubrication.
