To clean the glass, use the same cleaning products used to clean the glass from the outside, after which polish it dry.
Fabric materials
Use a vacuum cleaner or soft brush to remove dust and dirt from carpets, upholstery and other finishes. Stains can be removed with a warm, water-based soap and dry cleaner. Oily, greasy, and other stubborn stains can be removed with a stain remover. Do not spill liquid on the fabric. Lightly dampen a clean cloth and gently wipe the stained area, starting from the edges and working towards the inside.
Vinyl and plastic finishes
Use a clean damp cloth or sponge to remove dust. For heavy soiling, use a slightly warm all-purpose cleaner or soap for vinyl finishes. Remove water stains and soap residue with a damp cloth or sponge, and then wipe the cleaned area dry with a clean, soft cloth.
Oil, tar, or grease stains can be removed with a clean rag or sponge dampened with an all-purpose cleaner or a special vinyl cleaning solvent. Apply a colorless protective lubricant to vinyl or leather coverings from time to time to keep the material shiny and supple.
Cleaning and caring for car leather upholstery
Volkswagen goes to great lengths to preserve the unique qualities of genuine leather upholstery. When dressing leather, every effort is made to preserve the natural advantages of the material, which creates additional conditions of comfort. The upholstery, which has an exceptional nature and natural qualities, requires careful daily care, since the skin is very sensitive to oil, grease, dirt, wet clothes, etc. With regular careful care of leather upholstery, it will retain its high quality for many years.
Dust and small particles of dirt penetrating the pores, grains of sand have an abrasive effect and damage the leather surface. If you leave your car in the sun for a long time, cover the upholstery or use a sunscreen to prevent it from discoloring and losing its natural shine.
Depending on the intensity of use, clean the leather from time to time, following the instructions below.
Never use any solvents, paraffin polishes, shoe polish, stain removers or similar materials.
For general cleaning of leather steering wheels, leather seat upholstery, etc. lightly dampen a cotton or wool cloth with water and wipe the stained areas. Stubborn dirt can be removed with a mild soap solution (two teaspoons of pure liquid soap to one quart of water). It is very important not to allow water to soak into the skin and penetrate into small cracks. After cleaning, wipe the leather surface with a soft, dry cloth.
In addition to this kind of regular cleaning, the treatment of the skin with a special protective agent is of great importance, which must be carried out approximately twice a year. The substance is applied to the leather surface in a small amount and after a certain time it is removed with a soft cloth.
Seat belt cleaning
Keep belts clean. Dirty belts will not install (get involved) in place properly. Use a mild, water-based soap solution to clean them. Let the belts dry, but they should not dry in the sun. Do not allow the belts to be pulled in by the inertia reel until they are completely dry.
Caution: Do not use chemical cleaners, bleaches or dyes to clean seat belts. All of them contain corrosive substances that weaken the fabric base.
When cleaning the seat belts, visually inspect them and contact your dealer if any damage is found.
Do not remove belts from vehicle for cleaning.
Engine compartment
From time to time, remove the leaves of the plenum panel in front of the windshield under the engine hood. This prevents clogging of the water drain holes and, on vehicles without fresh air filtration, prevents outside debris from entering the passenger compartment through heating and ventilation ducts.
Warning: Be sure to remove the ignition key before accessing the front plenum panel. Otherwise, the windshield wiper system may turn on and the movable wiper linkage may injure you.
The engine compartment and transmission are provided with a protective anti-corrosion coating, which is applied at the factory, see chapter "Corrosion protection".
Good anti-corrosion treatment is of great importance, especially when driving a car in winter. If you frequently drive on salted roads, the entire engine compartment and plenum panel should be thoroughly cleaned and treated to prevent the salt from causing a corrosive effect at the end of winter. At the same time, the bottom of the car must be thoroughly washed.
Before starting to wash the engine, be sure to turn off the ignition.
At any time when cleaning the engine compartment with degreasing solutions or when washing the engine, the anti-corrosion layer is almost always removed. It is therefore imperative to have a Volkswagen dealer apply a long-term corrosion protection coating to all surfaces, connections and components in the engine compartment.
Note: Volkswagen dealers have cleaners and protective agents recommended by the manufacturer for this purpose, as well as the equipment necessary for their application. Only use cleaners designed for this purpose. Never use gasoline or diesel fuel.
