Tires used in winter (VW Golf 2)

Your vehicle is equipped with the tires that are optimally suited to the operating conditions. For winter driving, the degree of controllability of the vehicle can be improved by installing universal tires (for all seasons) or radial tyres for use in winter conditions (M + S) with or without studs.

Winter tires, or "snow tires" as they are sometimes called, provide maximum traction in slushy conditions.

If your Volkswagen is equipped with high performance tires (on the end of the tire there is a code letter designation H or V) and you often drive on icy roads or in the presence of snow, it is necessary to install universal tires for winter use. Consult your Volkswagen dealer about this.

When installing tires for winter use, please note the following:

• Only winter tyres with radial ply should be fitted. Consult your Volkswagen dealer to determine the correct tyre size.
• It is necessary that tires for winter use are installed on all four wheels
• Due to the specific design characteristics of radial tyres (M+S), they must be inflated by 0.2 bar above the specified cold inflation pressure for conventional radial tyres. In any case, do not exceed the maximum permissible pressure, the value of which is indicated on the sidewall of the tyre.
• Tyres for winter use do not fully meet the requirements placed on them if the tread depth is less than 4 mm.

Warning: It is very dangerous to use tires with increased tread and stud wear. In this case, they must be replaced immediately.
Never install tires of different design together, for example, a steel-cord radial tire with a tire having a radial inclined cord, etc. The simultaneous use of different types of tires will adversely affect the directional stability of the vehicle, may lead to loss of control over the vehicle and, as a result, injury to passengers.

• Winter tyres with studs should be driven at medium speeds initially to allow time for the studs to adjust.

Do not drive your vehicle with winter tires installed for extended periods of time at high speeds.

Winter tires are made from a softened rubber compound, have a deeper tread pattern and therefore provide low-speed performance. When used on dry road surfaces, the grip of such tires and their service life are significantly reduced.

• When installing all-season or winter tires, strictly adhere to the speed limits specified for them.

Permissible speed values according to the letter code:
Q — up to 160 km/h
T - up to 190 km/h
H — up to 210 km/h

Please note: The maximum speed rating of tires for winter use is less than the maximum speed your vehicle can reach.

Exceeding the maximum permitted speed will result in tire damage, which in turn will result in loss of control of the vehicle and injury to passengers.

Do not exceed the permitted speed limits and prepare your vehicle for real-world road conditions.

Chains for use on snow-covered roads

This type of chain can only be used on the front wheels.

Do not use chains on 185/55 R15 tyres fitted to 6J 15 rims.

Use only chains with a small link pitch, protruding no more than 15 mm above the tread and sidewalls. When the tensioner is engaged, the wheels with the chains installed on them must rotate freely at any steering wheel position to avoid damage to the body, axle or brake components. The car must be driven at low speeds, strictly following the operating instructions of the chain manufacturer.

Chains may not be used on the spare wheel. If there is no snow on the roadway, remove the chains. Otherwise, they may be damaged and cause a deterioration in the vehicle's directional stability.
