Basic rear wheel brake adjustment (VW Transporter T4)

Basic adjustment of the rear wheel brake is performed with the brake drum removed.

Adjustment of the brake shoes is only possible with the brake drum removed.

1. The handbrake lever in the driver's compartment should be loose and at the bottom.

2. Loosen the handbrake cable adjusting nut.

3. Move the brake pads towards the brake support and center them by eye.

4. By turning the adjusting gear (from behind through the brake support shield) adjust the brake shoes by diameter (a), (a = inner diameter of the brake drum minus 1.0 mm). Example: the inner diameter of the brake drum is 268.0 mm, then the diameter (a) of the brake shoes adjustment is 267.0 mm.

5. Then adjust the handbrake.
