Removing
Removing the oil pump is possible without removing the engine.
Drain engine oil.
Remove muffler cover.
Support the engine with a mobile garage jack with a wide wooden spacer.
Loosen the engine mount.
Remove V-belt.
Remove belt pulley. Loosen the 4 nuts on the pump cover.
Remove the pump cover with gasket and pull out the gears.
With light blows of a rubber hammer, drive out the oil pump housing, or pull it out using a special puller (VAG № VW 201).
Examination
Before installation, check the wear of the oil pump housing and gear bearings. The worn out surfaces in the housing lead to a decrease in oil pressure.
Check the reliability of the fastening of the short axis of the gears inserted into the housing and, if necessary, replace the housing.
Check the end play of the oil pump. To do this, put a measuring ruler on the oil pump housing and measure the gap with a feeler gauge. The play can be a maximum of 0.1 mm.
Check the pump cover for signs of wear, face grind the worn cover or replace it.
Check the integrity and cleanliness of the interface with the oil pump on the engine crankcase.
Installation
Insert the oil pump housing with a new O-ring and put on the gears.
Rotate the crankshaft two revolutions so that the camshaft rotates one revolution and at the same time rotates the pump gears. In this case, the gears in the pump are centered.
Install the cover with a new gasket, insert the sealing nuts and tighten with a tightening torque of 25 Nm, do not change the position of the pump casing. The O-ring on the nuts faces inwards.
Install the belt pulley.
Install V-belt.
Screw the engine beam.
Install muffler cover.
Pour oil into the engine.
After a test drive, check the oil pump for leaks.
