Since August 85, the VW bus has been equipped with a dynamic oil pressure control system. This means that the control is carried out independently of the engine speed.
At an engine speed of less than 2000 rpm and at the same time the oil pressure drops below 0.3 bar, the oil pressure warning lamp on the instrument panel flashes. At speeds above 2000 rpm, the oil pressure must rise to at least 0.9 bar, otherwise the warning lamp will flash again and the buzzer will sound.
If the oil pressure warning lamp flashes and the buzzer sounds while driving, first of all switch off the engine immediately and check the oil level and, if necessary, add oil. If the oil level is normal, or after topping up the control lamp continues to flash, you must not continue driving in any case. Tow the car and determine the defect according to the diagnostic table.
