Sealed toothed belt guard (VW Transporter T3)

From the 2.84 model onwards, the diesel engine is equipped with a fully sealed toothed belt guard. In this regard, the following repair instructions should be observed.



Procedure for removing the rear protective cover:

• first remove the camshaft wheel, tension roller and fuel pump, then release the fuel pump console.
• release the camshaft wheel from the cone through a 6 mm hole using a mandrel and a hammer (See arrow).
• (13-730) the inter-shaft wheel was installed closer to the cylinder block, and the fuel pump console in the area of the inter-shaft wheel was blunted. Only a new wheel is supplied as a spare part. When installing 8 previously manufactured engines (without sealed casing) it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that there is at least 0.5 mm of free play between the wheel and the console (see arrow). If necessary, modify the console in the wheel area.
