To remove the intermediate shaft, the engine must be removed from the vehicle. The intermediate shaft is located at the front of the engine. To be able to remove the intermediate shaft, the injection pump and all timing drive components must be removed; the cylinder head can remain in place.

The sealing ring flange has a return hole at the bottom and must be installed taking this into account. The flange determines the axial clearance of the shaft and must be replaced if the axial clearance is greater than 0.25 mm (the contact surface is worn out). The axial clearance can be determined using an indicator. To do this, install the indicator and rock the shaft back and forth. The sealing ring creates a tight seal on the engine side of the flange. If the flange has been unscrewed, the sealing ring located on the inner side of the flange should be replaced.
