2. Check the electrolyte level in each cell every week. If necessary, add distilled water to bring the level up to the mark (in the case of translucent cells), or so that the level is located 6.0 mm above the separator plates.
3. Topping up should be required very rarely. If this is not the case, then you may suspect a leak in the battery case or overcharging of the battery caused by a faulty alternator voltage regulator.
4. Keep the battery terminals clean and lubricate them with Vaseline.
5. Wipe the top of the battery case clean. If corrosion is found on the battery terminals or battery mounting tray, neutralize it. With regular ammonia or sodium bicarbonate solution (baking soda).
6. The battery condition can be checked using a special tester, but if you have a hydrometer, you can use it to check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in each cell, and then compare the obtained values with the table below.
7. Any deviation in one or more cells may indicate that the battery is failing and may soon need to be replaced.
8. If it is necessary to extend the battery life, to charge it after the vehicle has not been used for a long time, or after an extremely heavy load, when an unusually large amount of current was used, or the vehicle has not traveled a sufficient distance for recharging, the battery can be charged from an external source.
9. Before connecting the charger wires, disconnect the battery wires from the vehicle's electrical system.
