Indication of faults using indicator lamps

Pos.Name
1Anti-skid system warning light (K86)
ESP and ASR control lamp (K155)
2Brake pad thickness indicator lamp (K32)
3ABS warning light (K47)
4Brake system warning lamp (K118)

Brake pad thickness indicator lamp (K32)

If the brake pad thickness indicator lamp (K32) (2) does not go out within 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on or lights up while driving, the causes of the malfunction may be as follows.

1. The brake pads are worn out. Check the brake pads on the front and rear wheels.

Replace the pads if they are worn.

2. There is a fault in the wiring.

ABS warning light (K47)

If the ABS warning lamp (K47) (3) does not go out after the ignition is turned on and the check cycle is completed, the causes of the malfunction may be as follows.

1. The supply voltage is below 10 V.

2. There is a malfunction of the ABS.

Attention! If the ABS fails, the anti-lock braking system does not work (disabled), but the braking system itself remains in working order.

The original can be found at vwmanual.ru

3. After the last engine start, there was a temporary failure in the operation of the speed sensor. In this case, the ABS warning lamp goes out automatically after the engine is restarted and the speed increases above 20 km/h.

4. The connection between the instrument cluster control unit and the ABS control unit (J104) is broken.

5. Instrument cluster malfunction.

ABS warning lamp (K47) and brake system warning lamp (K118)

If the ABS warning lamp (K47) (3) goes out, but the brake system warning lamp (K118) (4) remains on, this may indicate the following faults.

1. The parking brake is applied.

2. Brake fluid level too low (the control lamp is flashing).

In this case, after turning on the ignition, three warning signals are heard.

3. Malfunction in the wiring harness of the brake system warning lamp (K118).

If the ABS warning light (K47) (3) and the brake system warning light (K118) (4) illuminate simultaneously, this indicates a malfunction of the ABS system. If the ABS malfunctions, note the change in the braking force ratio between the axles while driving.

Caution! If the ABS warning lamp (K47) and the brake system warning lamp (K118) are illuminated in the instrument cluster, premature locking of the rear wheels may occur when braking.

Anti-skid system warning light (K86)

If the traction control system indicator lamp (K86) (1) does not go out after the ignition is turned on and the check cycle is completed, the causes of the malfunction may be as follows.

1. A malfunction has been detected that is specific to the ASR system. The vehicle's active safety systems, ABS and ECU, remain functional. Query the fault memory.

2. Short circuit to positive in the ASR shutdown button (E256).

3. Malfunction in the control of the anti-skid system indicator lamp (K86).

4. The traction control system (ASR) is disabled by the ASR disable button (E256).

Flashing of the traction control system indicator lamp (K86) while driving indicates that the system is activated (impact on actuators).

If the traction control system indicator lamp (K86) (1) does not light, the following malfunction is possible.

1. Malfunction of the anti-skid system control lamp (K86).

ESP and ASR control lamp (K155)

If the ESP and ASR indicator lamp (K155) (1) does not go out after the ignition is turned on and the check cycle is completed, the causes of the malfunction may be as follows.

1. A fault related only to ASR/ESP has been detected. The vehicle's active safety systems ABS/EDS and EVU remain intact.

2. Short circuit to positive in the ASR and ESP disable button (E256).

3. Malfunction in the control of the ASR and ESP control lamp (K 155).

4. The ASR/ESP systems were disabled using the ASR and ESP disable button (E258).

Flashing of the ASR and ESP (K155) control lamp while driving indicates that the systems are operating normally (impact on actuators).

If the ASR and ESP control lamp (K155) (1) does not light, the following malfunction is possible.

1. Malfunction of the ASRnESP control lamp (K155).
