Removing
Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
Remove the shift lever.
Remove the rear seat and the mounting hole cover of the tie rod connector on the frame channel.
Cut and remove retaining wire (if there) on a square bolt. Loosen the square bolt using pliers or a suitable wrench.
Loosen the hex bolt from the clamping sleeve of the rod connector and remove the connector.
Loosen the screws on the mounting cover at the front of the frame cross member. The illustration shows the cover of a Kafer 1200.
In a car with a long front (as in this case) a protective stamped element is installed in front of the frame cross member. Remove all screws to remove it (see arrows).
Move the rod forward with pliers and remove. In the case of a vehicle with a long front end, the moving rod must be rotated for removal and installation.
In the considered version of the car, remove the guide bush with the guide ring from the thrust bushing (access to it is through the hole of the shift lever in the channel).
Installation
Check all parts for wear and replace if necessary.
Attention! If the sliding rod knocks, check the seat of the bearing bush and the guide ring. If the shift lever is rattling in the moving rod head, fill the rod head with grease.
Lubricate the entire length of the sliding rod with M0S2-based paste and push it into the frame channel from the front.
Install the bearing bush in the stiffener and put on the guide ring.
1 - frame tunnel; 2 - amplifier; 3 - bushing; 4 - guide ring
Install the sleeve so that the groove is on the side.
Slide the link from front to back through the bushing until the link head is centered in the hole in the frame. At the same time, turn the front rod so that it does not get stuck. Install the cover with the seal on the frame cross member and the front guard.
Install the sliding rod connector through the mounting hole in the frame channel, install the clamping sleeve and tighten the hex bolt.
Slide the moveable stem connector onto the inner shift lever. Tighten the square bolt.
Attention! The bolt must fit into the recess of the movable rod. Otherwise, there will be difficulties when shifting gears. Secure the bolt with wire.
Attention! Self-locking hex bolt (installed from April 1975, had a length of 10 mm) does not require wire locking. This bolt is disposable.
Install the frame cover and tighten the bolts. Install the back seat.
Install the shift lever.
Adjust gear shift.
