If the axle shaft protective covers are damaged, the gearbox does not need to be removed, as split covers are available as a spare part.
Removal
Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on supports.
Loosen and remove the axle shaft boot clamp. Cut the cover and throw it away.
Clean the boot mount housing and bearing cover. The mounting surfaces for the cover must be thoroughly cleaned of oil and dirt.
Installation
Lubricate the dividing surfaces of the split protective cover with a thin layer of D3 sealant.
Wrap the cover around the axle shaft so that the connecting seam is horizontal and points to the rear.

Secure the cover with a clip.
Caution! Tighten the clamp mounting bolts with the rear suspension loaded (the car is on the ground). Avoid twisting the cover to avoid distorting the sealing surfaces.
Check the gearbox oil level.
