Examination
Mark the direction of rotation of the tires with an arrow. Loosen the wheel bolts. Raise the front of the car onto jack stands and remove the wheels.
Attention: Strictly follow the instructions given in the chapter "Removal and installation a wheel".

The thickness of the brake disc should always be measured at the thinnest point of the "arrow". At the service station, a special caliper or a micrometer with a bracket is used for this, since a flange forms on the brake disc during operation. The thickness of the brake disc can also be measured with a regular caliper, but then a rigid gasket must be placed on each side of the disc (for example, two coins). To obtain the thickness of the brake disc, the thickness of the inserted pads or coins must be subtracted from the measured size.
(The information is available on the website: «VWmanual»)
Note: Measure the circumference of the brake disc at several points.
The nominal dimensions and wear limits of brake discs are given in the chapter "Technical characteristics of the brake system".
If the wear limit is reached, the brake discs must be replaced.
If there are large cracks or grooves deeper than 0.5 mm, the brake discs must be replaced, see the relevant chapter.
Ensure the previous direction of rotation of the tires, tighten the wheels with bolts, lower the car and only then tighten the wheel bolts in a crosswise manner with a torque of 120 Nm.
Attention: Strictly follow the instructions given in the chapter "Removal and installation a wheel".
