Rear drum brake mechanism (VW Polo 4)

1 - spring plate

1 - spring plate
To remove, turn 90°.

2 - pressure spring

3 - brake shoe with lever for handbrake

4 - upper tension spring

If necessary, remove using special tool 3438 from VW.

5 - lower tension spring
Apply plastic grease G000650 to the contact surfaces.

6 - tension spring

7 - brake shoe

Check the thickness of the brake lining.

8 - plug
To check the thickness of the brake lining, remove it.

9 - expansion pin

10 - brake shield

11 - Allen head bolt, 8 Nm

12 - wheel brake cylinder

Check for leaks.

13 — wedge
To remove and install the brake drum, press upwards through the wheel bolt hole.

14 — expansion bar
Apply plastic grease G000650 to the contact surfaces.

15 - contact spring
If necessary, remove using special tool 3438 from VW.
