Checking the air flow meter (VW Polo 3)

The flow meter is used by the control unit to determine the amount of fuel injected and to control the exhaust gas recirculation. The smaller the signal from the flow meter, the less fuel will be injected into the cylinder.

1. Connect the VAG 1551 tester and, by entering "01" "Engine Electronics", select the engine control unit. The engine should be idling. The display should show the following information:

Specification value:
  • AGR engine: 230-420 mg/h.
  • ALH Engine: 200-390 mg/h.
  • ASV engine: 210-420 mg/h.

5. If the specified value is not achieved, check the exhaust gas recirculation.

6. If the set value is reached, accelerate the vehicle in second gear with the accelerator pedal fully depressed (revolutions approximately 1500 rpm).
