Vehicles with a catalytic converter
Motors 55 kW, 74 kW, 92 kW, 110 kW (1.8 l) and 110 kW (2.3 l). Super unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 95 or regular unleaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 91.
When using unleaded normal gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91, there is a slight decrease in power.
Vehicles without a catalytic converter
Engine 74 kW. Super unleaded or leaded gasoline with an octane rating of 95 or normal unleaded or leaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91. The use of normal gasoline will lead to a slight reduction in engine power.
Unleaded petrol must comply with DIN EN 228 and leaded petrol with DIN 51 600.
If you only have fuel with a lower octane rating than required for a given engine, you should only drive the vehicle at medium engine speed and reduced engine load. A heavy load on the engine due to fully depressing the accelerator pedal can lead to engine damage. As soon as possible, the fuel tank should be immediately topped up with gasoline of sufficient octane rating.
You can unlimitedly use gasoline with a higher octane rating than is required for this engine. However, this does not give any gain in either engine power or fuel consumption!
Vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter should only be run on unleaded gasoline.
Only one filling of the fuel tank with leaded gasoline leads to a subsequent reduction in the efficiency of the catalytic converter.
In the interests of protecting the environment, vehicles not equipped with a catalytic converter should also be filled with unleaded petrol whenever possible.
Additives for gasoline
The smooth running, power and durability of the engine are decisively determined by the quality of the fuel. Additives added to the fuel are of particular importance here (additives). Therefore, it is recommended to refuel the car only with high-quality gasoline with additives.
If you do not have such gasoline at your disposal or if there are violations in the operation of the engine, it is necessary to mix the necessary additives with fuel when refueling the car. These additives have an anti-corrosion effect, clean the parts of the fuel supply system and remove various kinds of deposits in the engine.
Not all additives that are offered on the market have proven to be effective enough. Therefore, you should purchase well-proven additives called "Volkswagen/Audi Genuine Fuel Additives for Gasoline Engines" at Volkswagen service centers in Germany and in many other countries where Volkswagen vehicles are sold.
Your Volkswagen workshop is aware of the specifics of the various additives and knows what to do when unwanted deposits have already formed.
Do not mix other gasoline additives.
