Engines 55 kW, 74 kW, 92 kW, 110 kW (1.8 l) and 110 kW (2.3 l). Super unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 95 or regular unleaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 91.
When using unleaded normal gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91, a slight decrease in power is observed.
Cars without catalytic converter
Engine 74 kW. Super unleaded or leaded petrol with an octane rating of 95 or normal unleaded or leaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 91. The use of normal petrol leads to a slight reduction in engine power.
Unleaded petrol must comply with DIN EN 228 and leaded petrol must comply with DIN 51 600.
If you only have fuel with a lower octane rating than the engine requires, you should drive the vehicle only at medium engine speeds and with reduced engine load. High engine loads due to full acceleration may cause engine damage. As soon as possible, immediately top up the fuel tank with gasoline with a sufficient octane rating.
You can use unlimited amounts of gasoline with a higher octane number than required for a given engine. However, this does not provide any gain in engine power or fuel consumption!
Vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter should only be operated on unleaded gasoline.
Just one fill of the fuel tank with leaded gasoline leads to a subsequent decrease in the efficiency of the catalytic converter.
In the interests of protecting the environment, vehicles not equipped with a catalytic converter should also be fueled with unleaded petrol whenever possible.
Gasoline additives
Smooth running, power and durability of the engine are determined to a decisive extent by the quality of the fuel. Of particular importance here are the additives (additives) mixed into the fuel. Therefore, it is recommended to fill the car only with high-quality gasoline with additives.
If you do not have such gasoline or if there are problems with the engine, you need to mix the necessary additives into the fuel when refueling the car. These additives have an anti-corrosion effect, clean the parts of the fuel supply system and remove various types of deposits in the engine.

Not all additives offered on the market have proven to be effective enough. Therefore, it is necessary to purchase well-proven additives called "Original Volkswagen/Audi fuel additives for gasoline engines" from Volkswagen service centers in Germany and in many other countries where Volkswagen cars are sold.
Your Volkswagen service center is knowledgeable about the specifics of using various additives and knows what to do when unwanted deposits have already formed.
It is not recommended to mix other additives with gasoline.
