Location of side airbags
The side airbags are located in the front seat back cushions and you can identify them by the inscription "AIRBAG" at the top of the rear of the seat backs.
The side airbag system, in conjunction with the three-point seat belts, provides additional upper body protection for the driver and front passenger in the event of a severe side impact.
In side impacts, the deployment of the side airbags reduces the chance of serious injury to the driver or front passenger in the area of the side impact.
In addition to their primary protective function, the seat belts also position the driver and front passenger in side impacts so that the side airbags can provide the most protection.
The side airbag system will not deploy in frontal impacts, minor side impacts, rear impacts, or rollovers.
The safety side airbag system is by no means a substitute for seat belts, but is an essential part of the overall concept of passive vehicle safety. Please note that the airbags are most effective only when used in conjunction with the seat belts.
Therefore, you should always use seat belts, not only because of the need to comply with legal regulations, but also for reasons of your own safety!
The side airbag system consists of the following main components and parts:
- electronic device for system control and monitoring of the functional readiness of the system (control unit);
- airbags on the sides of the rear side of the front seatbacks;
- control lamp on the instrument panel.
