Coolant Temperature Gauge and Sensor — general information (VW Lt 28)

1. The coolant temperature sensor is screwed into the elbow of the cooling system, bolted to the rear surface of the cylinder head (see photo).



2. The sensor rarely fails. A reliable check of its operation can only be made using an ohmmeter. Check the reliability of the sensor wire fastening.

3. The coolant temperature gauge on models produced before July 1976 is equipped with its own voltage stabilizer. On the latest models, one stabilizer serves both the coolant temperature gauge and the fuel level gauge. If both gauges start to give incorrect readings, then the voltage stabilizer is most likely to blame.
