When engaged, the clutch pressure plate is pressed by a diaphragm spring against the driven disk and flywheel, thereby establishing a rigid kinematic connection between the engine crankshaft and the input shaft of the gearbox. The release bearing and release ring do not touch each other.
When the clutch pedal is pressed, the bearing is driven by the cable and the clutch release shaft. The release bearing compresses the diaphragm spring, the pressure plate moves slightly. This releases the clutch slave disc located between the pressure plate and the flywheel, thereby breaking the connection between the engine and the gearbox.
