When repairing an engine with leaking valves, it is not enough to treat only the valves and their seats or replace them. In addition, the valve guide bushings must be checked for wear. This check is especially important for high mileage engines. If the wear is too great, the guide bushings must be replaced (this operation is carried out in the workshop).
Using a brush, remove carbon from the valve guides.
Insert a new valve, fix the cylinder head with the combustion chambers up. The valve stem must be pressed in at the bottom, under the guide.
Measure valve runout with a dial gauge by turning the valve head.
If the runout is greater than 0.8 mm, replace the valve guide.
