Regardless of what tires are installed, you should always remember: at temperatures near freezing, a water film forms on the ice. This reduces the grip of even the best winter tires, and this is dangerous.
As for tire sizes, it is recommended to use narrow winter tires whenever possible. This is primarily due to cost: narrower tires are cheaper than wide ones. The money saved can be used to buy rims that are universally suitable, since regular rearrangements in spring and autumn are much more expensive.
The following winter tire sizes can be installed:
- 145 R13 on 4 1/2 J x 13 rims (only for Golf models with a 1.5 liter engine and 37 kW power);
- 155 R13 on rims 5 J x 13 (for all models);
- 175 70 R13 on 5 J x 13 rims (for Golf models with a 1.5 l engine and 37 kW):
- 175 70 R13 on rims 5 1/2 J x 13 (only for Golf GTD models);
