Removal
Open the door.
Slide the clamping washer off the door latch pin from below; remove your finger in an upward direction.
At the upper and lower hinges, unscrew two M8 bolts with internal hexagons or one bolt with a hexagonal head, respectively. Have an assistant hold the door.
Remove the door together with its hinges.
During installation, the bolts must be tightened to a torque of 45 Nm.
Note: If the door does not stay in the "Open" position, both bolts that secure the door striker to the A-pillar have probably come loose.
Installation
To install the door, the Volkswagen must stand on a horizontal surface on wheels.
Loosen the fastening of the locking pin, which connects to the door lock.
Connect the door to its hinges so that it can move in all directions.
Insert the door into the doorway so that the door panel together with the adjacent body parts form a smooth surface. In addition, a gap of the same width must be maintained around the door.
From inside the car, check whether the door and its seal fit correctly.
If the installation is correct, you can tighten the hinge bolts.
Press the lock button on the handle. Lift the door slightly and allow the lock to connect with the lock pin.
Release the button and open the door by lifting it slightly.
The locking pin must be securely fixed in this position.
Check the door installation; if necessary, make further adjustments.
Left door hinge shown (older design) with two Allen screws. If you only have an L-shaped socket wrench, it is best to use it with a curved ring wrench, as shown in the photo.
On the right newer design. Fastening is carried out with only one bolt at the top and bottom.
