Launched the Golf Hatchback and Scirocco TS Coupe. The Golf model is equipped with a 1.1 liter engine (1093 cm3) or 1 5 l (1471 cm3). The Scirocco model is only available with a 1.5 liter engine.

On the Golf LS model, the 1.5 liter engine has been replaced by a 1.6 liter (1588 cm3). Limited edition Golf S Saloon.

Launch of Golf GLS with 1.6L engine (1588 cm3). The Scirocco GLS model was released to replace the previously released TS model. Launch of the new Scirocco GTi lineup.

The Golf L 1.1 has been discontinued. 1.6L GTi model released. Golf LS Models (3-door) and GLS (5-door) equipped with a 1.5 l engine (1457 cm3). The Scirocco model has improved bumpers and lighting fixtures.

The production of the Golf N 1.1 continues (1093 cm3) and launched Golf GL 1.1. Model Golf LS 1.5 (3-door) not issued further.

The Golf N and L 1.1 models come with improved trim, including soft-touch bumpers and a remote-controlled driver's mirror.

Golf GL 1.1 discontinued (3-door). Golf 1.1 N·models (3-door) and L (5-door) continue to be issued.

Resumed production of the Golf LS 1.5 (3-door).

Model Golf GTi 1.6 (1588 cm3) is available with an improved suspension, ventilated brake discs, anatomical front seats, improved upholstery and interior trim. Scirocco GLi launched Injected variant of the GLc launched (Scirocco Storm)

Engine release ONS 1.5 l (1457 cm3) discontinued, instead, the 1.3 l ONS engine is installed on the Golf LS and GLS models (1272 cm3). The Golf GTi, Scirocco GLi and Storm models come standard with a 5-speed gearbox and alloy wheels. Scirocco models are equipped with an electronic ignition system.
March 1980
Jetta Saloon launched (4-door) with 1.3l engines (1272 cm3), 1.5 l (1457 cm3) and 1.6 l (1588 cm3). Models of the Jetta family are similar to the Golf models. The Jetta GLi has a 5-speed gearbox.
April 1980
A transitional Golf GLi model was introduced with the 1.5L engine from the GTi model and with the trim of the GL model.
July 1980
Limited edition Golf Driver with 1.3L engine (1272 cm3). Sport trim, steering wheel and instrumentation, and wide cast wheels are standard.

The release of the Golf GLS model with the 1.5 ONS engine was resumed. The design of the dashboard and rear lights has been changed, the luggage compartment has been enlarged. On Jetta models, the design of the dashboard and instrument panel has been redesigned, and the Jetta GLi and Scirocco GLi Sports Coupe models have been discontinued. The Scirocco GTi is launched with improved trim, rear seat belts and tinted windows. The Scirocco Storm comes standard with a radio.
July 1981
Golf 1.1 N·models (3-door) and L (5-door) now designated C. Improved equipment, it includes halogen headlights and swivel sun visors. The Golf Formel E is launched, which is an economical version of the C, equipped with a 3+E transmission with a shift/fuel consumption indicator. "economical" the gearbox has an increased fourth gear ratio, which reduces engine speed and saves fuel. The car develops maximum speed in third gear.

Models of the Golf family are now designated C, CL, GL, GLi, GTi and the economical model Formel E. Jetta models have the same designations as Golf Cars are equipped with 1.1 liter engines (1093 cm3), 1.3 l (1272 cm3), 1.5 l (1457 cm3) and 1.6 l (1588 cm3). An economical version of the 1.1 liter engine is available for the Jetta Formel E.
February 1982
The Scirocco I has been discontinued and a new Scirocco model has been released, not described in this publication.
September 1982
Golf GTi and GLi models are equipped with the 1.8L ONS engine (1780 cm3) 112 hp and on-board computer (seven functions).
April 1983
Limited edition 1.3L Golf Driver relaunched (1272 cm3). The model is equipped with a new grille with additional headlights, wide wheels, a tachometer and a digital clock.
Limited edition Golf GX with 1.5L engine (1457 cm3) and economical transmission type 4 + E. The model is equipped with special fog/auxiliary lights, so the grille and spoiler are changed.
October 1983
The Golf I has been discontinued and the Golf II, which is not described in this publication, has been launched. The Jetta LX model was launched, equipped with a sunroof, wide wheels, flared wheel arches and special trim.
June 1984
The Jetta I model has been discontinued and the Jetta II model, which is not described in this publication, has been launched.
