Removal the V253 Transfer Case Electric Motor (VW Touareg 1)

If replacing the V253 transfer case motor, please note the following.

The new transfer case electric motor is adjusted to the prescribed position.

To facilitate installation, adjust this position on the transfer case as well, if possible.

Turn off the ignition.

Turn the transfer case control E473 to the "LOW" position (fig. 3.122).

Turn the transfer case control E473 to the «LOW» position (fig. 3.122).


Then turn off the ignition.

If the previous transfer case electric motor is installed, then the control element E473 does not need to be turned to the "LOW" position.

If present, remove the screen above the transfer case electric motor.

Disconnect plug connections A, B and C.

Remove the D holder (fig. 3.123).

Remove the D holder (fig. 3.123).


Remove the bolts and remove the transfer case motor from the transfer case (fig. 3.124).

Remove the bolts and remove the transfer case motor from the transfer case (fig. 3.124).
