The coolant pump cannot be repaired, so replace it if it is faulty. Check the pump for leaks (leak sites are most often marked by rust) and rotate the hub to check the condition of the bearing. To replace the pump, disconnect the thermostat housing (Fig. 468) and remove the thermostat. Unscrew the pump bolts and remove the pump. Remove the gasket between the two halves of the pump housing.
Before installing the pump, install a new gasket. Replace the thermostat housing O-ring.
