It is generally believed that tires, figuratively speaking, have a "memory", and rough handling of them - such as fast or frequent driving over a curb or kerb - only much later leads to damage to the tires.

Tire cleaning

If possible, do not clean tires with a steamer. If you hold the nozzle with a stream of steam near the tire, the rubber layer will be destroyed within a few seconds, especially after subsequent treatment with cold water. For safety reasons, a tire cleaned in this way should be replaced.

A tire that has been in contact with oil, grease or fuel for a long time should also be replaced. The tire at the appropriate place first swells, but then returns to its original shape and looks like it has no damage. However, the load-bearing capacity of the tire is reduced.

Tire storage

Tires should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place. They should not come into contact with oil, grease or fuel.

Tires should be stored in the garage or basement lying down or mounted on a rim. Tires without rims should be stored standing up.

Before removing the wheels, you should increase the tire pressure slightly (approximately 0.3-0.5 bar).

For tires with a winter tread pattern, use your own rims, since remounting tires on the same rims is not economically viable.

Tire running-in

New tires have a very smooth surface from the moment they are manufactured. Therefore, new tires (this also applies to the spare tire) are subject to running-in over a distance of approximately 300 km with careful driving. During the running-in process, due to the onset of wear, smooth surfaces become rough and the tires' grip on the road surface improves.

If the vehicle has a mileage of up to 300 km with new tires, you should be especially careful when driving on wet surfaces.
