Maintenance of the lubrication system (VW Passat B4)

Check the oil level of the lubrication system every 500 km of the vehicle's mileage or before a long trip. Check on a cold engine or a few minutes after stopping the engine, placing the vehicle on a level surface.

Oil change in a petrol engine should be done every 15,000 km. If the mileage is too low, once a year.

In severe operating conditions: on short distances, frequent cold starts and heavy dust, it is recommended to change the oil at shorter intervals. To change the oil:

• warm up the engine to operating temperature (+60°C);
• unscrew the drain plug and let the oil drain into a container;
• screw in the plug with a new gasket, applying a torque of 4 kgf·m;
• unscrew the oil filter using a special tool;
• wipe the mating surface and screw in a new oil filter, having first lubricated its gasket with engine oil;
• tighten the oil filter by hand (see tightening instructions on filter housing);
• fill the engine with oil to the normal level.
