Disassembly and assembly of front wheel hubs (VW Passat B2)

Remove the telescopic stand as described above.

Remove the brake disc from the hub.

Remove the protective cover attached to the suspension spring.

Press the wheel hub out of the steering knuckle using a mandrel and a support ring.

If necessary, press out the inner race of the ball bearing using a puller with hooks and a support ring.

To remove the outer bearing ring from the steering knuckle, first remove both retaining rings, then press out the outer bearing ring using a pipe, support ring and mandrel.

Replace the hub bearing if necessary.

The hub assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly, taking into account the following:

• put the retaining rings in place and press the outer bearing ring until it stops;
• press the suspension strut housing onto the wheel hub using a mandrel and support rings. The support ring should only fit against the end face of the inner bearing ring.
