The electrical equipment of the car operates at a voltage of 12 V. The current to the body is carried out through the negative terminal of the battery. The battery is located in the engine section.
The starter clutch mechanism is used to start the engine. The start switch is part of the ignition switch and, when pressed, energizes the start switch mounted in the starter.
Alternator installed in «Golf», has a rated current of 65 A or 90 A, but can be manufactured by companies «Bosch» or «Valeo». The generator is driven by the crankshaft through a ribbed belt. The voltage regulator is used to regulate the charging current and is located on the back cover.
The rear warning lamp mounted on the instrument panel indicates the perfect functioning of the electrical equipment, namely the battery charging system. If the lamp does not go out when the engine is running, then a malfunction in the battery charging system can immediately be assumed.
