Technical requirements
The drawbar of the trailer, according to its technical parameters, is designed for towing a trailer in a loaded state. Make sure the trailer hitch fits your vehicle's hitch fork and is securely attached to the body. Only a trailer tongue with a replaceable ball joint must be used.
To ensure that the correct drawbar design is selected for your vehicle, please consult the manufacturer. Never attach the trailer to the bumper of the vehicle. The drawbar must be installed in such a way that it does not interfere with the operation of the bumper suspension system. From time to time, check the tightness of the fastening bolts of the drawbar. If you do not need to tow a trailer, remove the drawbar ball. This will prevent damage to the drawbar if your vehicle is hit from behind.
Attention: If you do not need to tow a trailer for an extended period of time, remove the hitch itself (drawbar). At the same time, plug all bolt holes to prevent water and exhaust gases from entering the cabin.
Trailer brake system
If your trailer is equipped with a braking system, make sure it meets all safety requirements. The trailer brake system cannot be directly (directly) connect to the vehicle's braking system.
Security chains
Always use safety chains between your vehicle and trailer.
Trailer warning lights
Trailer signal lamps must meet all road traffic regulations. Do not connect the trailer lighting system directly to your vehicle's lighting system. To check the correct configuration and wiring type, turn off the relay and contact your Volkswagen dealer.
Mirrors
Make sure both sides of the trailer are visible from the driver's seat. If necessary, install convex rear-view mirrors.
