Examination
Periodically check the condition and security of the hoses, especially before the onset of winter.
Inspect each hose for cracks, fraying, splitting, swelling, or softening of the rubber.
Cracks are best seen when the hose is compressed. The condition of the rubber can be determined by touch (too soft or spongy).
Locate coolant leaks by looking at the colored deposits left after the antifreeze has dried (if the cooling system is topped up with hard water, the deposits will be rusty and white).
