To check if the valves are tightly fitted, if the piston rings are worn out, if there are no other malfunctions in the cylinders, measure the compression in the engine cylinders. To do this, the engine must be warmed up to operating temperature.

On the VR6 engine, checking the compression in the engine cylinders is associated with some difficulties, since it requires removing the spark plug plugs and the spark plugs themselves using a special tool.

If there is a concern that one of the cylinders has poor compression, then the most reasonable thing to do is to contact a service station. In addition, if the car has a VR6 engine, then you can choose between a Ford service station and "Volkswagen".

Based on the compression value, the following conclusions can be made:
  • normal compression 1.0-1.3 MPa
  • wear limit 750 kPa.
